Why We Have Sheep on Our Farm 

Sheep have always been an important part of our vineyard ecosystem. We use them to naturally graze between the vines, helping manage weeds while gently fertilizing the soil as they go. It's a win-win for everyone. Less fuel for our tractor (which creates less pollution) and more food for our sheep! This approach supports our commitment to biodynamic farming practices. We choose to work with nature rather than against it. We have found this creates a healthier, more balanced environment for our vines, our land, and our wine.

Meet Our Sheep: Babydolls

Our flock is made up of Babydoll sheep, a breed known for their small size, calm temperament, and irresistibly cute faces. They’re perfectly suited for vineyard grazing because they’re short enough that they won’t munch on the grapevines themselves. We run them through the vineyard while the vines are dormant and no leaves are on them to tempt the hungry sheep. During the grape growing season, you can find our sheep on other properties grazing away. We extend their services to others to clear brush and eliminate wild fire potential. Beyond being excellent workers, they’ve also become beloved members of the farm, bringing personality and charm to our daily routines.

With lambing season beginning, the farm feels especially alive. There’s something truly magical about welcoming new life—watching wobbly legs find their balance, seeing lambs snuggle up to their mothers, and hearing their tiny bleats echo across the vineyard. It’s a season that reminds us why we love farming: the rhythms of nature, renewal, and the simple joy of caring for animals.
